Kappa Delta/Sailing Team fight over the Rock: May 19

The Rock was painted approximately five times between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a call to arms was sent out via email sent by to the NU Sailing Team with the subject line “The epic of KD and NUST,” According to the email, members of the Kappa Delta sorority, whose philanthropic Twister Tournament is this Saturday, decided to paint the Rock Tuesday night, though the sailing team had already started guarding it for the following night.

Though they allowed it to be painted, the sailing team then painted over KD’s work with blue and white paint after they left. Later, KD returned to the Rock and the sailing team allowed them to paint it again. However, a short time later, the sailing team changed the Rock to say “KD breaks rules” and made the painted polka dots into sad faces. The wall surrounding the Rock read “To paint the Rock you must guard it for 24 hours. FAIL!”

By 11 a.m., KD painted over the Rock a last time with plain white paint.

Really, sailing team? This philanthropy is in memory of a Northwestern KD who was killed by a drunk driver. How do you think her parents feel about you and your actions right now? I know most of the sailing team does not support what was painted, and sailing exec has apologized, but to those who actually did this and thought it was a smart idea - you should be ashamed. I hope this isn't how you honor your loved ones.ReplyReport Are you sure? Yes / No

I'm pretty sure KD was initially informed that painting the rock without having guarded it for the previous day was not cricket, contrary to your mention of the sailing team "allowing it to be painted." It was apparently only after they came back (after having unduly painted it already that night), that the sailing team members who were there "let them" paint it again.

To the above comment: The rock is essentially a billboard, but it still has certain rules that every student, group of friends, and organization know to follow when painting it. How would you feel if you were guarding the rock one night and someone just came up and painted "This is my rock" while you were there? This is pretty much the same situation. It had nothing to do with what the group/purpose is or the reason for it but rather was only about the traditions and policies that govern the painting of the Rock.

Just because you're promoting a good cause doesn't mean you're allowed to disregard tradition. If NUST's claims are true, then I think KD got what they rightly deserved for their impatience and laziness. Really, if this is such a cherished cause for KD, can't they take the time to do things the right way?ReplyReport Are you sure? Yes / No

I mean, if we want to talk about rock tradition and policies, the NU sailing team didn't wait 24 hours before painting and vandalizing KD's rock. Nobody was planning on painting the Rock Tuesday night, including the sailing team.

Beyond that, though, it's just a matter of respecting and cooperating with other organizations on campus. Congratulations, sailing team. Way to play up your roles as entitled rich brats.

1. the sailing team didn't paint the rock until they had been guarding for 24 hours (last night) they just painted a blank rock over KD's lack of following tradition-->get cho story straight.

2. nobody disrespected anyone's memory. NUST did not sabotage KD's philanthropy, nor their efforts to advertise it. the rock is just a fun thing to do, if you do it right. rock battles happen all of the time, no need to make personal attacks.

1. Respect the unwritten rules of painting the rock, regardless of what the cause is. 2. Also, people need to chill out and stop making unprovoked personal attacks and generalizations. 3. Rock-fuck, rock-fuck, better than a tiger-fuck.ReplyReport Are you sure? Yes / No
