The word “skinny” has seen an over 275% Google search increase since 2004, according to Google Trends. Companies feed women advertisements for diets and cardio programs like they’re candy.


But strength training may be the key to better body image, according to health experts, including researchers on a 2013 U.S. National Library of Medicine study. These stories explore the potential benefits of weightlifting for community building, injury reduction and self-confidence and offer actionable steps toward a new routine.
