Mayfest has announced rapper A$AP Ferg as Dillo Day 2019 headliner. A member of hip hop collective A$AP Mob, which also includes artists such as A$AP Rocky and A$AP Twelvyy, Ferg released his most recent project Still Striving in August 2017.
The Harlem native is known for songs such as "Plain Jane," "New Level" and "Work." In addition to his work with other A$AP Mob members, Ferg has collaborated with artists such as J.I.D., Future and Tyler, the Creator. Outside of music, Ferg has a creative partnership with Adidas and is involved with A$AP Rocky's creative agency AWGE.
Ferg was previously booked to play Dillo in 2015, but that year's event was canceled due to weather. Mayfest looked to bring in a high-energy hip-hop artist when booking him.
"Hip-Hop/Rap have by far been the top genres on our poll for the last few years, and it’s great to provide campus with that genre through such an acclaimed artist," said Communication senior and Mayfest Director of Booking Koyote Meiners-Rios in a statement. "It’s great to provide campus with that genre through such an acclaimed artist."
It seems that Ferg finally performing after the 2015 cancellation is part of the "throwback" theme Mayfest has previously teased at. Now the question is: Who else will join him?
