The Chiu family opened Chiu Quon Bakery in 1986, serving Chicago’s Chinatown community after they immigrated to the United States from Hong Kong. As the oldest bakery in Chicago’s Chinatown, they have survived both the 2009 Recession and the COVID pandemic. Sammi Li talked to the married couple running the bakery, owner Joyce Chiu and manager Will Chan, about the history and the future of their family-owned bakery.
