As impossible as it would seem,

I watched as the horizon burned,

inhaled the mercurial fumes,

allowed the window to splinter,

pressed the sulfurous shards into my palms--

watched the Leviathan summon

indifferent torrents of rain-fire,

fighter jets defending nothing,

abysmal skylines, dead cities--

watched as the oceans drained themselves,

deserts rotted, fog extinguished,

oxygen divorcing the air,

the rainforest’s maniacal decay--

watched the mists of the Pleiades,

once cool, turn violent with blood-rage,

assassinate each galaxy,

murder time in all its vile glory,

and I fell in love.
