Only a 👏 few 👏 more days until Dillo Day! This Saturday, June 1 is the “largest student-run music festival” in the United States. Right here. At Northwestern. Whether you’re a Dillo rookie or an old pro of the festival, we have a little to-do list – to-D(ill)o list if you will – to help you get all prepped and pumped for one of Northwestern’s biggest events of the year.
1. Pick up your ticket!
The last chance to pick up your Dillo wristband is Friday, May 31 from noon to 7 p.m. in the Norris Wildcat Room 100. Make sure to bring your Wildcard, and if you’re bringing a guest, a picture of your guest’s ID! No one will be able to pick up wristbands on Dillo Day.
2. Check out the Dillo Day lineup on the festival’s website
A$AP Ferg, Anna Lunoe, Daya, Hippo Campus, Teyana Taylor and more will hit the scene at the Lakefill stages on Saturday!
3. Look over the Dillo map and set schedule
Make sure you know where the main stage (and the food trucks!) are located.
4. Plan out your festivities
Aside from the music, of course! This year, Dillo will feature hair braiding, face painting, astrology, a video game truck, oversized games, a Ferris wheel, a Polaroid photo wall and art installations along the Lakefill. There will also be special discounts for Apple Pay users at the food trucks, $1 knapsacks and deals on phone accessories from AT&T.
5. Plan out your meal(s)
Aztec Dave’s, Brew Bike, The Fat Shallot, Cold Stone Creamery, Pono Ono Poke, Happy Lobster, Cheesie’s (Northwestern students’ long lost love back for one day only!), Yum Dum and, for those 21 and over, The Beer Garden are this year’s food and drink offerings! IFC and PHA will also be serving free bagels and fruit from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the intersections of Sheridan and Noyes and Orrington and Emerson, as well as at the Engelhart parking lot. They’ll also be handing out free pizza at 1 p.m. on the Lakefront (see map).
6. Pick out your outfit!
Psst, we heard that retro is this year’s festival theme...
7. Pack your necessities
Your WRISTBAND, money, an EMPTY water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, your CHARGED phone, your ID and your Wildcard are some good things to have with you. You’re allowed to bring a small bag or fanny pack to the Lakefill to carry everything – just know all bags will be searched!
8. Prep for the weather!
It looks like it’s going to be in the high 40s to mid-60s on Saturday with cloudy skies and yes, rain (and maybe thunder). Now you can’t say we didn’t warn you!
9. Take care of yourself and those around you
A LONG day of dancing, singing and enthusiastic Dillo spirit is a lot. Make sure you drink enough water, get your meals in and – as is often recommended by seasoned Dillo Day-goers – try to take a nap at some point! Also, see the map for the locations of the medical tent, water stations and the public safety and emergency personnel.
Lastly, remember that you can always download the Dillo app for more information!
Have fun and stay safe, everyone!
